ATTENTION: In New South Wales (NSW), Australia, the requirement for overseas drivers to undertake knowledge and driving tests when converting their licences depends on the country or jurisdiction that issued the original licence. The NSW Government categorizes these into two lists: List A and List B.

Countries Exempt from Knowledge and Driving Tests
If you hold a current licence from any of the following countries or jurisdictions, you are exempt from both the knowledge and driving tests when applying for a NSW car (Class C) or rider (Class R) licence:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Canada (any state)
- Croatia
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Guernsey
- Ireland
- Isle of Man (licences issued since 1 April 1991)
- Italy
- Japan
- Jersey
- Luxembourg
- Malta (licences issued or renewed since 2 January 2004)
- Netherlands
- New Zealand (except for paper licences)
- Norway
- Portugal
- Singapore
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- United States of America (any state)

Countries with Conditional Exemptions
If you are 25 years or older and hold a current licence from any of the following countries or jurisdictions, you are exempt from both the knowledge and driving tests when applying for a NSW licence:
- Bulgaria
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- Estonia
- Hong Kong (for licences held for at least 12 months)
- Hungary
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Poland
- Republic of Serbia
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- South Africa
South Korea (Republic of Korea)
- Taiwan
If you are under 25 years old and hold a licence from one of these countries, you must pass the relevant knowledge and driving tests.
❌ Countries Not Recognised
If your licence is from a country or jurisdiction not listed above, you are required to:
- Pass the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT)
- Pass the Hazard Perception Test (HPT)
- Pass a practical driving test
This applies regardless of your age or driving experience.
